The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program is a course that teaches individuals how to integrate mindfulness into their daily lives. Through experiential learning and reflection, participants gain a greater understanding of the innate resources they possess and learn to access these resources for increased resilience and enhanced well-being. MBSR programs have been heavily researched in recent decades with studies revealing various benefits such as improved immune function and cardiovascular health; reductions in stress, depression, and anxiety; enriched relationships; and enhanced awareness, concentration, and focus. The program includes mindfulness meditation instruction and practice; yoga and body awareness training (for all ability levels); an exploration of habits and patterns of thinking, feeling, and behavior; as well as brief educational sessions and opportunities for discussion.

What’s Covered?

The program includes: mindfulness meditation instruction and practice; yoga and body awareness training (for all ability levels); an exploration of habits and patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving.  Knowledge and skills are developed through experiential learning activities; brief educational sessions; and collaborative learning during group discussions.

Program Structure

The MBSR program spans a period of several weeks and includes: a required orientation class, eight evening classes (two and a half hours in duration each) and a day retreat.

Participants are asked to commit 45-60 minutes per day (at least six days per week) to their mindfulness practice. Completion of a few short homework assignments is also encouraged.

Kristen Picard (or Kris) is a teacher, a speaker, and a lifelong student. As a teacher at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Kris educates adults in the field of biotechnology. She also teaches and speaks about various aspects of mindful living – these aspects include lifestyle choices for wellness such as healthy eating, yoga, and meditation. Kris is a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher; she received the designation of Qualified Instructor from the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Center for Mindfulness. Participants in her programs receive a rich understanding of mindfulness through exposure to philosophy and research that is solidified through experiential learning. Kris is completing her PhD in Adult Learning and Development in October of 2017. In her research, Kris is investigating the development of adult meditators.
